The Islamofascist nuisance

Dutch filmmaker Theo Van Gogh, who had received death threats after releasing a movie criticizing the treatment of women under Islam, was slain in Amsterdam on Tuesday.

If we treat terrorism as a nuisance, like John Kerry proposes, this is the sort of nuisance we would have to learn to live with.

Neither Kerry's nor Bush's approach to terrorism would have prevented this. Better immigration laws and law enforcement would have.
Let that be a lesson for us.

Colin,
Its not that Kerry's or Bush's approach will prevent such acts, but that years of aquiecence on the part of politicians to terrorism in trying to keep it at a Nuisance (for themselves) level has led to such blatant acts.
Now it's two Dutch citizens who have spoken out. Maybe next time it will be a market place or something.
Monday was the market in Tel Aviv and that was an example of the pre 9/11 Nuisance value Kerry referred to because it only happened in Israel or some other far flung place. It was permitted to grow to the extent that even the Spanish have had a taste of a nuisance.
The politicians won't control immigration or implement better law enforcement because their PC policies, no matter how stupid, keep them in office.
One just has to see what is going on in the States with regard to drivers licences for illegal aliens (oops, sorry "undocumented persons").
Let them and their families get hurt and then there will be a change in policies.

"years of aquiecence on the part of politicians to terrorism in trying to keep it at a Nuisance (for themselves) level has led to such blatant acts"

Highly doubtful. What led to that act is the culture of the middle east. You must understand this is a culture that believes fathers have the right, in fact the obligation to murder daughters who commit adultery. It is an extreme culture and has been that way for its entire existence.

I appreciate your viewpoint, but it is highly optimistic to believe an American/Christian President or any European politician is going to change that culture or the effects of that culture by simply ceasing to "acquiesce."

Our only defense against that kind of terror is to keep it out of our respective countries through aggressive and effective immigration and border controls.

This response is late as I've just back to my box.

Colin,
Maybe you don't know, or have forgotten, but the terrorist who murdered the American paraplegic Klinghoffer, while on a cruise in the Med, was caught by America and handed over to Italy because of teritorial concerns for punishment. Because he had an Iraqi diplomatic passport the Italian Prime Minister, Betino Craxi if my memory serves well, had him released. The terrorist then went on to Bagdad where he stayed under the protection of Saddam.
Maybe the above puts into perspective:
"years of aquiecence on the part of politicians to terrorism in trying to keep it at a Nuisance (for themselves) level has led to such blatant acts".

Maybe I wasn't clear - I absolutely agree we must NOT acquiesce such as in the case you provide. However, ceasing to acquiesce alone will not achieve security for Americans or others who believe in free speech. Strong immigration policies are REQUIRED to keep our country and our people safe.
