Here at the Shark Blog we are proud to be slow adopters of new technologies. Our skepticism of overhyped newfangled gadgets is a by-product of our professional experience as developers of leading edge computer software and specifically as users of other developers' leading edge software.
But just yesterday, our household entered the 20th century when we bought our first DVD player. What a marvel, the DVD. I'm not a licensed 747 pilot, so I can't quite figure out what to do with the remote control or the cockpit-like menu that it puts up on the TV screen. Nevertheless, our new DVD player seems to be sleeker and more versatile than the Betamax our whatever it is that we have been using.
We're so excited about our newfound embrace of innovation that next week we'll consider upgrading to dial telephones!

I start my new job Tuesday... working for Michael Medved!! Business manager for Medved Communications. I am so excited I can hardly eat.
Thank God!!
Rita Rudner (I think she was the 1) had a comedy bit along those lines. She said she'll buy a CD player if they promise that's the last thing they're going to invent. Those people walking around muttering to themselves, she said, are the ones who bought 8-track players.

He cited a fatwa by osama in 1998 that said that one of the reasons americans should be killed was that the USA was uncritically supporting ariel sharon's policies. One problemo pat, sharon was not prime minister in 1998 - oops! he was foreign minister - it was netanyahu.
Posted by: jannol on September 5, 2004 09:01 PMGee whiz, Shark! DVD players have been at a price point of 40 bucks and new DVD releases cost $15 on average for the past three years while VCRs and their associated media have languished for ten years at higher prices and lower quality... Yet you're just now catching on?
What's worse is that high definition DVD players (and recorders) will start filtering into stores in November--you've only just begun your race to keep up with the 21st Century. Oy!
Hey, because I was in Texas last week I will have to listen to your appearance on Talk 770AM via the Republican Radio archive on the Web. Anything exciting happen?
We need to think about getting you a regular gig on talk radio. In all seriousness let's get together with the Bleeding Heart Conservative and make that happen.
Posted by: Scott on September 6, 2004 10:04 AMIf you get a fax, whatever you do, don't admit it exists to anyone but close friends. There's a form of spam called "junk faxes" which uses YOUR dead trees to sell you real estate, vacations... I unplugged mine before the Kenyan investment opportunities arose.
BTW I'd listen to you on Hugh Hewitt or Michael Medved anytime.
I beat your purchase by a few months! I'm still learning all there is to know about my DVD/Video recorder, which may be impossible to do. Heck, I even have to ask my ex-wife for help with my computer!
Check out my post on the Bush campaign I wrote today on my blog.

Nor yet the last
To set the old aside...
We just got our second DVD box, one which is enabling my wee wifey, less technical than myself, to transfer our video collection from tape to disk. So there, nyaah.
