It's in the P-I

Today's Seattle Post-Intelligencer contains the most brilliant op-ed it has ever published: mine.

More explanation, here.

what a great op-ed. you two have made a compelling argument as to the lack of specificity and accountability, and the really expensive aspect, of this levy. were i a voter in your region, the pro-levy lobby would have some difficult arguments to rebut.

one question. beside good intentions (and perhaps some form of interest in these programs), what do you think motivates the pro-levy supporters?

Thanks for the kind words, Dinesh.

A lot of the people behind the levy are non-profit agencies who want more spending sent their way. There are also a lot of well-intentioned people who think that any spending of money on social services for the poor is money well spent.

Seattle is full of bleeding heart liberals who will vote indiscriminately to raise taxes as long as the stated purpose is social services, libraries, schools, parks, public transportation, etc. The specifics don't matter nearly as much as the generous intent, properly stated.
