Now I know why John Kerry has been campaigning on his four months in Vietnam and not his 20 years in the United States Senate. Sen. Zell Miller:
no pair has been more wrong, more loudly, more often than the two Senators from Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy and John Kerry. But for some, the only story is Zell Miller's anger.Together, Kennedy/Kerry have opposed the very weapons system that won the Cold War and that is now winning the War on Terror.
Listing all the weapon systems that Senator Kerry tried his best to shut down sounds like an auctioneer selling off our national security but Americans need to know the facts.
The B-1 bomber, that Senator Kerry opposed, dropped 40 percent of the bombs in the first six months of Operation Enduring Freedom.
The B-2 bomber, that Senator Kerry opposed, delivered air strikes against the Taliban in Afghanistan and Hussein's command post in Iraq.
The F-14A Tomcats, that Senator Kerry opposed, shot down Khadifi's Libyan MIGs over the Gulf of Sidra. The modernized F-14D, that Senator Kerry opposed, delivered missile strikes against Tora Bora.
The Apache helicopter, that Senator Kerry opposed, took out those Republican Guard tanks in Kuwait in the Gulf War. The F-15 Eagles, that Senator Kerry opposed, flew cover over our Nation's Capital and this very city after 9/11.
I could go on and on and on: against the Patriot Missile that shot down Saddam Hussein's scud missiles over Israel; against the Aegis air-defense cruiser; against the Strategic Defense Initiative; against the Trident missile; against, against, against.
This is the man who wants to be the Commander in Chief of our U.S. Armed Forces?
U.S. forces armed with what? Spitballs?
Business Week have become nothing but shills for Kerry and the Democratic left.
Zell Miller's remarks, I think, were directed more at his own party than at Republicans. Miller still has that quality that is absent in the modern democratic party: patriotism.
Posted by: Matt J Kurlander on September 2, 2004 06:26 AMIt's not just Business Week, Fortune is in the same camp. It's hard to understand how in the world publications focused on economic matters embrace the soft socialism (higher taxes, more regulation, diluted property rights and the heavey-handed involvement by the State) of today's Democrats when historically, these approaches introduce economic efficiencies, substitute bureaucratic decision-making for customer focused decision-making and clearly hamper the ability of an economy to grow and generate wealth.
My wife surprised me with a gift several years ago and renewed my subscription to Fortune. While I appreciate her thoughtfulness, I asked her not to do that again. After I explained to her this magazine had ceased to educate me and has lost it's focus, she understood. She also scratched her head in wonderment about their cluelessness.
Posted by: Gary B on September 2, 2004 09:31 AMMight be because the editors and reporters for Business Week and Fortune came to their positions from j-school and/or b-school and have no practical economic experience in the real world.
Posted by: Matt J Kurlander on September 2, 2004 10:11 AMCongratulations, now GWB has transformed this country in a Banana Republic.
And I sure know what that is. I was born in one. Thanks to Bush now living here feels just like home.
Miller's speech was not delivered in a dixie state or in FoxNews, the whole word was watching. The whole word is analyzing this campaign.
someone remind me again who the "flip flopper" is?

03/01/01 - Miller introduces Kerry at the Democratic Party of Georgia's Jefferson-Jackson Dinner
My job tonight is an easy one: to present to you one of this nation's authentic heroes, one of this party's best-known and greatest leaders - and a good friend.
...
In his 16 years in the Senate, John Kerry has fought against government waste and worked hard to bring some accountability to Washington.
Posted by: mark on September 2, 2004 11:41 AMOoooh, good call Mark.
Now, look at the date and please tell me at least one thing that's happened between now and then.
(go ahead. I'll wait.)
Now, do you think the focus of Miller's speech last night - national defense - might be just a bit more relevant than some JJ dinner touting government waste and accountability?
Wake up.
Posted by: jimg on September 2, 2004 12:02 PMThank you, sono, for that bracing shot of incoherence.
Posted by: Matt J Kurlander on September 2, 2004 12:23 PMI loved the Zell Miller speech. I too was once a supporter of the Democratic Party. Now I intend to vote for George Bush. George Bush is the best thing to ever happen to America and Israel. G_d bless George Bush.
Posted by: blitz on September 2, 2004 11:02 PMI appreciate a clever, hard-hitting political speech, even if it is delivered against my candidate. My problem with Zell Miller's speech was not that it was angry and over the top, my problem is that he resorted to LIES and distortions. Sec of Defense Dick Cheney, for instance, was opposed to the same damn 1991 defense appropriations bill that Kerry is getting such grief for voting against. If the Democratic Party and its nominee is as irresponsible and out of the mainstream as it is alleged to be, why is it necessary to MAKE SHIT UP about his record?
Some info. on the lies:

Posted by: Markus Rose on September 3, 2004 11:43 AMHow can you state people "MAKE SHIT UP" about the very record you acknowledge is correct? Such is the twisted world of the left.
Shouldn't Kerry want to defend his votes as would Cheney?
Posted by: Gary B on September 4, 2004 10:58 AMIf anybody has reason to be furious at the Democratic Party, it's Zell Miller. He believes they have betrayed their ideals and what he spent his life serving. Argue for or against him all you want, but consider what would make him change sides so dramatically. Remember, he was one of the only major Democratic figures to slam that idiot McKinney for her asinine remarks after 9/11, while the bitter left fringe was idolizing her.
Dems that write off the likes of Miller are just nailing thier own coffin.
