Suppression of Dissent in Ashcroft's America

The Moronorail Recall campaign has apparently gathered enough signatures to put the initiative on the November ballot. Nevertheless, the Monomaniacs will stop at nothing to quash the dissenters:

The Seattle Monorail Project, along with pro-monorail environmentalists and landowners, is continuing to fight the initiative with two lawsuits.

One suit contends that city-issued permits to build the proposed monorail are land-use decisions that cannot be overturned by an initiative. In the other case, the agency is trying to void the first 9,600 anti-monorail signatures because they were collected before a judge reworded the petitions for greater clarity on June 18.

"Even if they have their signatures, I think there's a lot of hurdles left to overcome between now and getting on the ballot," monorail board member Cindi Laws said.

Totalitarian bastards. I blame Ashcroft.

Yes, Ashcroft is to blame. Obviously there aren't enough patriots left in Seattle to support the monorail. Perhaps we could teach those over-taxed Seattle-ites a thing or two by passing the Seattle Patriot Act that does away with the right to initiative.

Damn democracy! Damn it to Hell!!! The problem with letting the plebs vote is they think they have a right to do it!

Damned uppity citizens! How dare they criticize their betters? This sort of thing doesn't happen in Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe, I can tell you that. Nor does it happen in the EU.

Bloody hell. You really need to either move out of Liberal Washington state or get some serious anti-depressant drugs.

Let's see the GOP have a strangle hold on the Senate, the House, the white house and the supreme court and you are bitching and moaning about Washington state.

Gee, I don't know. I guessed that opposing taxes is a patriotic thing. You can't really believe it is a democrat versus republican thing. If that were true then Eyman's I-695 to lower car tabs would have failed because Washington is overwhelmingly a Democratic state. Think about how much people hate taxes - our forefathers put aside their political differences to have a Boston tea party, and many lost their property and lives in the ensuing revolution.

Anti-tax movements are an American tradition. People in Seattle are beginning to hate the monorail, among many reasons, because of the car tab tax. Maybe that is why people are signing I-83. I-83 has nothing to do with D's v. R's.

Exactly, Tim. I never considered the Moronorail to be a partisan issue, simply an example of arrogant elitist politicians and unelected bureaucrats running amok.

However, now that Jake has injected party into the discussion, it always seems to be Dems who use strongarm and extra-legal tactics to run roughshod over voters. Because, they're, like, baby eating Commies, maaaaan.

Similar tactics are being used against Nader.

Is he on the ballot here in Washington State? If not does anyone know how we can help get him on it?

John Doe, ask the local Dems where they get their felon vote canvassers, maybe there are some left to work for Nader -

Oops, forgot, the Dems HATE to have felons work for anyone but themselves.
