Even Helen Thomas occasionally asks an insightful question

Helen Thomas asks:

Is the Democratic Party so bereft that it has to seek out a Republican for the No. 2 spot on its presidential ticket?
It would appear that way.

Is the Republican party so empty that it must support exactly the same policies that the Democrat party supports?

yes, the republicans are that empty. we need another political party that is not yet beholden to corporate and related special interests.

The wages of thirty years of radicalism. Clinton had to headhunt the Republicans in his search for a SecDef as well. That the Dems have to recruit someone with "defense credentials," simply to reassuer voters he won't sell the country up the river to foreign powers, is astonishing. That the best they can come up with is a former radical of the Vietnam Vets Against the War is really sobering.
