In my neighborhood coffee house this morning, three wizened Seattle peace activists were reading the newspaper and lamenting the war in Iraq. They were pointing to a page in today's Seattle Times that has pictures of both Shi'ite gangster/preacher Muqtada al-Sadr and Brig. Gen. Mark Kimmitt, deputy chief of U.S. military operations in Iraq.

Look at that guy.Seriously. Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at April 13, 2004 10:11 AMYeah, he's one mean looking dude.
God, I hate that guy. I just hate the way he looks.
Fucking Kimmitt.
I hate that guy.
Have you ever heard him speak?
No, but the way he looks. It just makes me want to kill him.
A perfect snapshot of latte leftists with their twisted lack of logic, amorality and, worse, their chilling viciousness. One consolation, their self-centric egos makes them very vulnerable people outside of the protection of their like-minded group. Any perceived slight, real or imaginary, is a big narcissistic injury to that type of personality.
Take comfort in this thought: life is an ordeal for them.

May I suggest to these red-blooded Americans that they could get their chance to "kill him" by simply packing up and flying to the mid-East and infiltrating Iraq. I'm positive they'd be issued the weapons to make an attempt on General Kimmit's life. They could take their entire neighborhood with them...
Posted by: Bob R on April 13, 2004 02:15 PMBob, it's all so metaphorical to this crowd.
Kimmet is attractive, masculine in bearing, a man of valor and action, the anti-Christ to our little Starbuck's wimps. al-Sadr gets a pass?
"No, but the way he looks. It just makes me want to kill him."..........calling Dr. Freud!
From the sound of it, your two lefties take life like they take their coffee ... bitter and cold.
Posted by: Matt J. Kurlander on April 14, 2004 04:32 AMAs they sit in a capitalist coffee shop in a capitalist country with democratic freedoms to say what they want, they hate all things capitalist and democratic.
Posted by: Jed on April 14, 2004 05:39 AMYes, Jed. Ironic -- and the embodiment of nihilism.
Posted by: CS on April 14, 2004 07:01 AMWhat's a nice guy like you doing in a low-class dive like that?
Or alternately, next time you go there, give me a call, and we can have a fine loud conversation that will raise the intellectual tone while shocking and horrifying all sick lefties far and wide.
Posted by: Hank Bradley on April 14, 2004 08:39 AMHeh, it's like you never left the Bay Area.
Posted by: Tony on April 14, 2004 09:27 AMHow do you know they were "peace activists"? Who was it that they were wanting to kill, al-Sadr or Kimmit? Because the conversation sounds a lot like George W Bush talking to Cheney about al-Sadr than real peace activists talking about anyone.
Posted by: Simon on April 14, 2004 11:54 PMSimon, nice try --- and by nice I mean really really incredibly lame --- attempt at obfuscation, but it doesn't wash.
You ask: "How do you know they were "peace activists?"
Since Sharkey was on-site and you were not, he characterizes their conversation as "lamenting the war in Iraq," Not, "lamenting the ineffectiveness of the strategies undertaken by the American military leadership in Iraq."
You ask: "Who was it that they were wanting to kill, al-Sadr or Kimmit?"
Article quotes one wizened peace activist: "Fucking Kimmitt."
Sharkey's description is contextually consistent. Trying to put a "Three's Company" double-entendre spin on it is, frankly, desperately lame.
Posted by: Matt J Kurlander on April 15, 2004 06:35 AMClearly, those lefties would have liked the pic of al Sadr now posted on Michael Totten's site - where MaS is going for the spaniel-eyed, quivering-lower-lip look (presumably while begging for his personal safety after loudly declaring he was ready for martyrdom).
Posted by: Brian Swisher on April 15, 2004 11:40 AM"Barista, get that latte really , really hot. Nuke it. Thanks."
stroll over.
"Did you say you want to kill Gen. Kimmitt?"
"Yup. Hate that guy."
"I see." DUMP COFFEE.
Posted by: Bleeding heart conservative on April 19, 2004 12:56 AMhere we go again....if we don't agree with your point of view we are....hmm...unpatriotic....hmm pacifists....hmm...oh thats right, we hate our government and we love the terrorists....i forgot that one....
Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." Your pal Herman Goering, dick cheneys big brother
