Reid, I hope you are right. But, my faith in Europe to get a spine is zilch. One new seachange in attitude in my life is to never again naively assume our European roots means an alliance in our present situation. And it's a good thing that we Americans are abandoning our hyphenated American attitude, maybe in the long run a blessing. I was in Ireland(deep roots there)three years ago, now a Frenchified left leaning anti-American bunch of effetes since joining the EU(read their newspapers). My relatives carped then on imperialist America. I'm sure it's fascist America now. I expect nada from Europe.

The West is gonna have a battle with radical Muslim. It's very likely to get bloody before Europe is engaged and before the West wins.
The Bush strategy is to wage that war on a prospective basis in the back yards of the terror swamps. Unfortunately for Europe, their battle will again be on their own turf like past world wars.
