The Howard Dean people are holding a rally in Seattle tomorrow, Feb. 28.
Washington state backers of Howard Dean have scheduled a rally at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Westlake Center, the site of Dean's biggest crowd of his campaign. Congressman Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, a Dean backer, is billed as the headliner for the event. The original South Sea cargo cults saw that when westerners built air strips on their islands, airplanes filled with cargo soon arrived. After the westerners departed, the natives kept building new airstrips with the expectation that it would cause more cargo planes to arrive. I leave it as an exercise to the reader to figure out the similarities to Howard Dean's Seattle fan club. Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at February 27, 2004 10:16 AMThe rally is designed in part to remind voters in Super Tuesday states that they can vote for Dean even though he has suspended his campaign.
If the goal of the rally is to remind voters to cast a ballot for Howard Dean on Super Tuesday, wouldn't it be more effective and improve the chances it might make a difference if the rally was actually held in a Super Tuesday State? Or is this just another example of the effectiveness of Jim McDermott? I'm sure all of the rallies attendees will feel better about themselves.

(One of my favorite rally games is "Count the Socialists" -- the most I ever saw with tables at one rally were the Freedom Socialist Party, Socialist Workers Party, International Socialist Party, Communist Party, Revolutionary Communist Party, Workers World Party, and the Green Party. God bless Washington State's low threshhold for becoming a recognized political party.)
Posted by: Jacqueline on February 27, 2004 04:19 PMJust to show how far The Angry Thumb has fallen, I've been away from blogs for a couple days and am just catching up. I live in Washington state and it wasn't until tonight, Tuesday (aqnd only by reading this) that I even knew Dean had a rally.
