Seinfeld's Jason Alexander, Friends' Jennifer Aniston, Taxi's Danny DeVito and Cheers' Rhea Perlman are all backing a new Mideast peace plan.
The "One Voice" campaign, backed by Alexander and several other Hollywood celebrities, seeks to gauge the feelings of ordinary Palestinians and Israelis on core issues in the conflict through an Internet referendum.Didn't ordinary Israelis already have their feelings gauged in a referendum about core issues in the conflict?
I predict that the George Costanza peace plan will come to be known as "The Peace Plan About Nothing"

Posted by: Menlo Bob on February 24, 2004 03:11 PMHonestly, given how so few celebrities dare come here these days, any visit is a cause for some cheer. Helps us feel that we're part of the big world after all.
Besides that, Alexander comes off as an essentially sweet, if totally naive, fellow. He's not denouncing anything or anybody and he's not trying to tell us how to run our lives.
Will his visit accomplish anything? Probably not. But you can file it under the category of "Doesn't help, doesn't hurt."

Any time a person be he a president, Prime Minister or dopey Jewish actor adds to the "extremeists on both sides arguments" Israel's actions in self-defense can never be anything more than "extremist" actions meant to balance the Palestinian "extremist" terrorism.
To buy into the myth that the rank and file of "Palestinian" society is a peace-loving, olive picking group of kibbutzniks, ipso facto makes any Israeli action that impacts these modern-day ghandi's an affront to peace. I am not saying that Costanza is alone, ever PM Sharon is always at pains to make sure that "ordinary Palestinians" are not inconvenienced in expressing their desire to kill all of us, and that they can come into Israel as if it is a birth-right to have free access to Jewish victims.
These pie in the sky, everyone wants the same thing hides the true crux of the conflict -- the Arabs' refusal to recognize the jews' right to exist, and thus give the Arabs cover to continue their total war agains the jewish people. The "OneVoice" movement is premised on a lie, and thus cannot beget truth.
