The Howard Dean campaign is on the verge of collapse
Howard Dean will not air ads in any of the seven states holding elections next week, officials said Thursday, a risky strategy that puts him at a distinct disadvantage with high-spending rivals for the Democratic nomination. It sounds like he's downsizing his ambitions to being appointed Mayor of the Day in Ann Arbor, Seattle and/or Madison. Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at January 29, 2004 04:23 PMWith his money and momentum depleted, Dean decided to save his ad money for the Feb. 7 elections in Michigan and Washington state and, 10 days later, the primary in Wisconsin, said officials who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Howard Dean...... hmmmmmmmm yawwwwwwwwwn.....
So lay down the shovel and the hoe,
hang up the fiddle and the bow,
There's no more buzz for poor Howard Dean,
he's gone where the good lefties go.
(with sincere apologies to Stephen Foster)
Posted by: Insufficiently Sensitive on January 29, 2004 04:50 PMdean, he nearly pulled it off. hooked up with moveon.org, meetup.com and other sites, get a bunch of lesbian radicals, environment wackos, die hard lefties together from there. then hit the colleges, and convince a bunch of guys who cant find jobs that they can get laid by working for a movement and some females who are pretty outnumbered that he is some major feminist, along with some radical homosexuals - and you have this mass, which seemed critical, then raise money from these oddballs, build more hype, then convince the media that you are the front runner, even the pollsters, and poof - when voters check you out, you are gone - i am convinced he got a little too cocky and with the gore endorsement peaked way too early - he could have had it if he had been more patient - why he needed the gore endorsement so early is beyond me
Posted by: jannol on January 29, 2004 08:01 PMHoward Dean tried to build a constituency out of radical lesbians and the most crazed of the left ... the kind of people who take home-made ecstasy from strangers but think bio-engineered foods will kill you ... it's not too surprising that he failed, but rather alarming that 20-30% of the democrat minority buys his garbage.
Posted by: Matt Kurlander on January 30, 2004 09:14 AMI just hope that Washington State Democrats don't embarrass themselves and all the rest of us here by going for Dean.
Posted by: wilinsky on January 30, 2004 02:37 PMPut these three elements in the same sentence without laughing out loud; Washington State Democrats, embarrassment and Jim McDermott.
Posted by: Gary B on January 30, 2004 05:27 PMWhile I won't call Dean a slam-dunk here (though he certainly is the favorite), if I were a Democrat in Washington state supporting one of the other candidates, I would be seriously questioning why Paul Berendt, the D party chair, came out so early in favor of Dean in a crowded primary, and basically ran the Washington state Dean campaign out of his office.
There are Dean stickers everywhere in Olympia. It makes me chuckle, but I will give them credit. They'll vote for him and stay with him 'til he's done. Just like they did with Nader, thank you. Doesn't make them smart; just loyal, stubborn and, well, idiots.
Posted by: jimg on January 30, 2004 06:44 PMI am waiting for the word from Karl Rove to starting giving Dean money on the internet. Dean is a great help to the republicans. We shouldn't let him drop out so soon.
