As Drudge reported yesterday, General Wesley Clark is raising money from non-Americans. The Clark campaign's official website lists the following on its "Grassroots Support" page: Canada for Clark and Germans for Clark.
Now I imagine that these websites from the Axis-of-Weasels are independent initiatives that created a Clarky website and some low-level webmaster at the Clark campaign thought that it would be cool to link to them. Still, you've got to wonder what that webmaster was thinking and who was supervising him.
In the meantime, wouldn't it be fun to create some more Weaselly pro-Clark websites, such as France for Clark or Belgium for Clark? Or for that matter, how about Hamas for Clark or North Korea for Clark? I wonder which of these would get links from the Clark campaign. In the meantime, in case the good general changes his website before you have a chance to see it, a jpg of the page in question is here
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at December 16, 2003 07:00 AMStefan, it's not only Clark. Moveon.org has also been caught in a similar scam in Sweden. The dems wanted campaign finance reform so badly, that they have now cut their own throats and are now trying to bypass US law by taking money from overseas donors.
U.S. liberal group rejects Swedish Web site's money
Swedish Web site operators thought it would be a good idea to solicit contributions from Europeans for the liberal U.S. group MoveOn.org.
"One dollar per EU-citizen would suffice to raise more money than the entire Bush campaign budget for the elections in 2000," the Web site said. "Compare this price to the cost of having Bush in the White House."
But MoveOn didn't want the money. In some cases, such contributions would be illegal; in other cases, they would give the unhelpful impression that MoveOn is orchestrating a European takeover of the United States.
"To avoid even the appearance of impropriety, we are not going to take contributions from overseas," Wes Boyd, a MoveOn.org founder, told The Washington Post.

I thought campaign contributions from a foriegn source to US candidates are illegal.

Posted by: Kevin P. on December 16, 2003 01:18 PMOf course they're illegal.
And no foreign site has been accused of contributing to any particular candidate. They just encouraged people to donate to Moveon.org, that's all. Moveon.org is no longer accepting foreign donations anyway. Besides, I think foreigners are free to make websites about anything or anybody they want, including American presidential candidates. Theres no law against that.
Yes, we made the "evil" Germans for Clark website. So what?! We are two low-budget exchange students - no filthy rich parents in sight. We actually know that we are not allowed to donate money - which money anyways? However it should be possible to express one's opinion in the "land of the free". Ii's freedom of speech - look it up in your constitution.
Happy New Year!
