The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is clinging to its own silly delusions in today's editorial, "Clinging to peace and its prospects"
What will it take to bring peace to the Middle East? There's no easy answer, but it requires a global commitment to try, try again.Actually, the answer is a fairly simple one -- that enough Palestinians choose the path of co-existence with Israel and muster the strength to put down those in their midst who choose the path of genocide. And it doesn't require a "global commitment" to do anything other than to stop supporting the terrorists and their sympathizers.
This week hundreds of Israelis and Palestinians joined Nobel Peace Prize winners in Geneva to promote yet another try, this time an "unofficial peace accord."Funny how the P-I implies that the conflict is caused by "Israel's hard-line approach" when in fact Sharon himself has called for a two-state solution and when the Geneva offer is quite similar to Barak's Camp David offer that was so unassailably fair that the Palestinians who couldn't live with an Israel destroyed the peace process with a barrage of terrorism. This new plan -- a repudiation of Israel's hard-line approach -- says the goal is a two-state solution but asks for global support in negotiating the details.
And here in the United States, Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders said they would mobilize 100 million from their congregations for an interfaith Walk the Road to Peace campaign. The group seeks a full Israeli-Palestinian cease-fire agreement as well as the appointment of a highly visible presidential envoy for the region. The P-I inexcusably fails to mention the role of the indispensable Yoga Community in supporting "Walk the Road to Peace".
It's nice to dream about peace. But as long as the Palestinian community supports a large, determined and unchallenged faction that demands the unconditional destruction of Israel, those who yoga, prance and write foolish editorials for "peace" can only be described as the witting or unwitting promoters of genocide.
The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is my candidate for the 2003 Robert Fisk Award for Idiotarian of the Year
Putting ones views about Israel aside, this is the most ridiculous editorial that I have ever read.
And here in the United States leaders would organize "100 million" of their followers for an inter-faith peace walk? If you believe that this is close to reality, you will believe anything and you are much less than an idiotarian--5 letters less that is. You are an idiot.
I want to know who these leaders are that claim to have 100 million congregants. Lets start with Jewish leaders. Is there a Jewish leader out there that could get ten Jews together at any time to do anything? Muslim leaders? Maybe they could get a crowd if the agenda was to throw eggs at the people that attended the signing in Geneva?
Christians living in the South probably feel most affiliated with a religious leader, but for some reason I don't see Jerry Falwell taking his flock on such a walk.
This is not the work of an idiotarian, but an idiot.
Posted by: Phil on December 4, 2003 11:38 AMyou know, even idiotarian have motives. Jimmy Carter has an old score to settle against Menachem Begin and the Jews (JImmy Carter only got 65% of the Jewish vote in 1980, the first time the repubs made major inroads, and many jews worked against him in the primaries). Thomas Friedman sells articles and books. Beilin wants to be prime minister. But when it comes to a shit rag like the PI, i think it is just dormant subconscious anti-semitism, which is kind of a lame agenda, if you ask me. I am not even sure if the owners of the PI are settling a score, i would think it is just a gut reaction of fear of arabs and gut reaction of appeasing and blaming the jews. whatever it is, it is still amazing that editorialists demand an end to israeli occupation, when there is no such occupation, at least not in area A.
Posted by: jannol on December 4, 2003 03:10 PMtake a look at this editorial in the Iowa State Daily News.
I outlined it already and am going to write to them but you should read it yourself. Its so chock full rich of idiocy that just a mild and sarcastically written letter without being over the top could mock it beautfully.
Take a look.
By the way I am dissappointed that while Barak lambasted these "accords" his old buddy Clinton didn't, in fact he supported them????
I know all the bash Clinton bs, etc... but I honestly thought, while being a huge ego like Barak, that Clinton was a more nuanced and smart negotiator and leader and not just a partisan hack, especially not when it comes to an issue as delicate as this.
However, slick Willie really dissappointed me here.

Israel has repeatedly rejected possibility for peace
100 million people in the U.S. is about 33% of the whole nation (http://www.census.gov/cgi-bin/popclock). One out of three. Look to the cube to your left and the cube to the right and one of you would be mobilized for this peace campaign.
Good grief, can't they even make up figures that could even start to be believable?
Posted by: Rob C on December 4, 2003 05:42 PMStefan, I would nominate Jimmy "I am the mediator" Carter for idiotarian....
Anyone stupid enough to re-write the Oslo accords is an idiot.
Posted by: Kevin P. on December 4, 2003 06:50 PMMike, the Iowa State editorial is a howler. My favorite paragraph:
Why is it that a 19-year-old Palestinian girl blows herself up in a cafe and we call it evil, but we supply an endless list of scapegoats for our own youth's terror attacks? Two persecuted kids shoot up a school in Colorado and Marilyn Manson gets blamed. That 19-year-old girl took the lives of others in protest for her brothers being killed by Israelis before her very eyes and she is labeled evil.
Poor Jared, he can't even get his metaphors to work. I'm guessing now that his diatribe got published he is back to work getting his acne under control before Saturday night.
What's really scary is that this poor ridiculous kid probably has a future in journalism by today's standards.
