The EU says its okay to murder sharks, as long as you eat the whole thing and not just the fin. And remember: Stiff-finned sharks can't ski.
This is a better deal than his victims got:
France's top administrative authority ordered the Finance Ministry to reinstate the pension of Maurice Papon, the highest-ranking French civilian ever to be convicted of Nazi war crimes. Payments to Mr. Papon, 92, were suspended in October 1999. He was belatedly convicted in 1998 for signing deportation orders for more than 1,500 Jews, and served 3 years of a 10-year sentence. He was freed because of poor health and old ageWhen Papon travels by rail, not only is he allowed to take a return train home, but he's even be eligible for a senior citizen's discount.
We spent part of yesterday in Carkeek Park. It was a beautiful warm day, we had nice views of Puget Sound and the Olympic Mountains. David enjoyed walking in the woods. We had no idea at the time that there was a body buried there.
A prime example of "midat Sdom" (justice of Sodom), just like the widow of Roland Freisler (chief 'justice' of the Nazi "People's Court") who was given an extensive pension on the grounds that her husband, had he survived, would have been able to resume his legal career [I kid you not!].
Some of these morally brain-dead decisions are made out of an unwillingness to create special contingency legislation for such cases. Also, perhaps in some cases, out of supposed consdieration for the next of kin.
In the case of Papon, there was of course a way to avoid this problem altogether...
