Peace on Earth: The Religion of Peace kills three people celebrating Christmas at a church in Pakistan.
Axis of Evil: Iranian sponsored terror groups are trying to infiltrate Israel.
Axis of Evil (2): Ze'ev Schiff reports that Iraq has been sending rockets and other, uh, "stuff" to the Hizbollah by way of Syria. And those North Korean Scuds intercepted on a boat recently? They were orginally destined for Iraq apparently. Faster, please. And when we're done with Saddam we can mop the floor with Baby Doc Assad.
Posted by Stefan Sharkansky at December 25, 2002 05:51 PMAnother church attack in Pakistan? Amazing. I'm still waiting for more Western Christians to wake up to the fact that their religion is under attack from extremist Moslems all over the world. I have some Methodist Christian friends who seem utterly oblivious to this fact, but do not hesitate to criticize Israel. Maybe the arrival in their congregation a Christian refugee from Africa whose life was threatened by Sharia enforcers in his home coutry will give them a clue. Probably not.
Posted by: Dan G. on December 25, 2002 02:24 PMToo simple-minded. Do not forget that Christianity is one of the largest religions, thus highlighting other discriminating factors, especially NATION. Europe is full of Christs, but do they give a damn about each other? They're English, French etc., but not "Christian". Further, thousands of people stare each day, e.g. in Somalia; do you care about that?
Posted by: hans on December 26, 2002 02:06 AMThousands starve, sorry. By the way, I did not want to play this incident down. Another point: there are, as far as I know, very few "radical" or extremist Christian groups, probably because hardcore-believers are rare. It's obvious that people have finally recognized that religion is nothing but a "collective mass neurosis" (Freud) or "opium to the people" (Marx). Twas about time.
Posted by: hans on December 26, 2002 02:12 AM"Too simple-minded". The classic idiotarian canard. Tell me, Oh Sophisticated One, what exactly in my comment was simple-minded? And what does people starving have to do with any of what I said? You may be an atheist, but I assume you believe in the right of people not to be persecuted for their religious beliefs. Or do you?
Posted by: Dan G. on December 26, 2002 08:48 AMDear Dan,
I did not mean to appear sophisticated. I just wanted to make clear that religious persecution (as any persecution due to political views, "race" etc.) is to be severely reprimanded and grave indeed, no doubt. I just wanted to make clear that many thousands die each die without many people showing interest, which is very grave. In my humble opinion, religion and nation are some of the main reasons for wars and violence (I experienced some funny German-bashing in the UK, very popular there even now, but at least I was not killed). Open-mindedness is a fragile plant growing slowly.
Yours
hans
